What should I do to get started with therapy?

Upon receiving a referral to Therapy Works, or if you are seeking out therapy on your own accord, please contact our office to schedule your first appointment. The office staff will answer all of your questions, and will schedule your first appointment, which is usually an evaluation. Please print and complete the New Client packet.

The Initial Evaluation Appointment (~ 60 mins)

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your child’s initial evaluation appointment with your child dressed in comfortable clothes, socks and sneakers. Upon your arrival to our facility, please check in at the front desk, and submit your completed new client packet, any other forms, insurance card, and driver's license.

We request that parents or caregivers remain present for the beginning of the evaluation in order to discuss current concerns. Following this discussion, we will take your child into one of our therapy rooms for their assessment. If you would like to observe a portion of or all of your child’s assessment, please just let us know.

Upon completion of the assessment, the therapist will discuss any possible areas of concern and discuss the next steps. Our comprehensive assessment will be provided to you within one week of your child’s evaluation. A plan of care and goals will be included in the evaluation report.

The First Therapy Session (60 mins)

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your child’s therapy session with your child dressed in comfortable clothes that are suitable to get a little messy! Sessions are typically 50 minutes with  the last 5-10 minutes set aside for parent education, concerns,  and discussion of progress.

During your child’s therapy session, most of our parents remain in the waiting room. Typically, children participate at a greater level, and / or transition more easily between activities without their parent present. Parents may also request to observe their child’s entire therapy session at any time.

Payments for therapy, including all co-pay’s, co-insurance, and deductibles will be collected at the time of service. Therapy services that are not covered by your insurance company, or for individuals without health insurance coverage, will also be collected at the time of service. We accept cash, check and credit card payments.

We will need your undivided attention as we gather developmental history and try to get a clear picture of your child and your concerns for therapy - so please plan accordingly.

My child is school aged - is it possible for me to get an after school appointment?

Absolutely! Keep in mind though that many of our children are school-aged, and their parents frequently request appointments after school hours. We will always do our best to accommodate your scheduling requests.

Do you involve parents in the process?

Yes.  Parents and caregivers are a very important part of therapy here at Therapy Works team.  Parents are invited back into the treatment rooms to observe therapy when the situation is appropriate.   Every session is designed to allow time for the parent and therapist to discuss progress and the child's response to therapy.  Parents are also given activities to work on at home to increase carryover in all settings and help the child be more successful in reaching their goals.

Forms and documents can be completed at the initial evaluation or emailed to you upon request.
